How to know the Will of God…
First of all, I want to wish you a happy New Week. I know it’s coming late, but it’s better to be late than for me not to say it 🙂
I believe the week would be a great one in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
Do you know one of the reasons why most of us get our prayers unanswered is because we haven’t killed the “self” in us? When you don’t kill the self in you, then the Kingdom of God won’t come! Your door remains closed if it is all about you. “The foundation of wickedness is Selfishness.” When you pray, don’t be selfish in the secret place, pour your heart out to God(with good intentions) but make sure your request would end up glorifying Jesus and God’s will be done.
Today, I would be talking on “Ways of knowing the Will of God.”
The foundation of my topic would be laid on the book of Matthew 6: 10, which says, “Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Now, we can rearrange it and make it more understandable; Your Kingdom come by your will been done on earth!
Colossians 1:9 says: For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.
Now, let me break it down, the will of God encompasses the below points:
- It’s inspired by the Holy Spirit
- It’s Founded or consistent in the word of God
- It makes Heaven Revealed
- It makes Christ Glorified.
Anything outside these four outlines is not the will of God!
Now, many false doctrines are going round, and that is why I need to clear the air on the Will of God. There are so many kinds of “will” of God outlined by our Fathers of faith, but I will narrow it down to two.
- The Revealed Will of God
- The Permissible will of God.
Revealed Will of God
The revealed will of God is the will of God that is primarily founded on the scriptures (revealed in the scriptures). We can add visions, prophecies, and dreams to it as the secondary wills, but the primary will that doesn’t fail is founded in the scriptures. Due to the degree of error(perception, reception, interpretation, and low level of renewal from the interpreter) of the secondary wills, we have no choice but to embrace the scripture as the most accurate way of understanding the will of God.
I Timothy 2: 4 says, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth! What truth, you may ask? The revealed truth is found in the scriptures (the word of God).
Listen! Asking God if it is your right as a believer to prosper is a wrong prayer and a wrong will of God. Have you forgotten what Jeremiah 29:11 says? For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future
Until you fully understand the will of God concerning certain situations using the scriptures, you’ll not be able to make the right request(s)!
Permissible will of God
The permissible will of God are actions (you take) that are done in Righteousness, and it glorifies God.. Anything decision you make that glorifies Jesus, make Heaven revealed, and is founded on the scriptures is the revealed will of God.
Let me give an example, you want to get married, and you feel you are not hearing God directly on who you should marry, then this what you should do. The Bible says in the book of 2 Corinthians 6:14, Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? Now, with this, you can align your thoughts with the word of God on who you should marry. The permissible will of God here is that, for you to get married, you must not marry an unbeliever! When you are planning to marry, you must marry someone the spirit of God convinces you is a true Christian and not someone still basking in darkness. Taking such a decision leaves you doing what the permissible will of God allows.
Secondly, Amos 3:3 says, Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so? The permissible will of God allows you to marry someone you truly understand. Let me tell you a secret, Love is great in marriage, but honestly, when you truly understand the person you want to tie the know with, you will have a great marriage.
Another example is when giving an offer or a job! If you intend to glorify the name of God wherever you find yourself and for the name of Jesus to be praised, then you have just observed the permissible will of God.
To round it up, anything that is done in Righteousness that brings glory to God is the permissible will of God.
